Put it on the wall

The sheet for station four, and it is free. Written in the room, with the people who do the work. Twenty minutes.

Company ______________________________  ·  Date ________________

First: take the lying numbers down

The numbers we report today
Three tests on each: can it move without the thing you care about moving? Does closing it need the result, or only the activity? Would you rather have less of it? One failed test and it comes off — not tomorrow.
Coming off the page, and why

Then: three numbers everyone sees

The number“On track” meansCould it look good while things get worse?Who brings it, and at what time

Example: jobs delivered on time this week · 95 out of 100 · no · the dispatcher, Friday at 4. A yes in the third column keeps it off the wall.

Where it hangs

Where the board hangs (a real wall)
Where the plan is, so anyone can read it
How anyone knows they had a good week (a number, not a feeling)

Two questions a week, from the people doing the work

What is stuck this week
What a customer said this week, in their own words
A number can be true and still be a lie about the business. If it could go up while the business gets worse, take it down and leave the space empty. The empty space is more useful than the lie was.

The rest of The Operations Page

Three more blocks and three more pages. They belong to the reads inside Base Camp.

The sheet above belongs to the read that is free, so it is free too. Inside Base Camp, Operations is four stations in order, and each one fills a block of one sheet:

  1. Get on the same page — Block 1: the whole team in one room; this quarter’s one thing, the values said out loud, the number and where it stands, one name on every part of the business.
  2. Set the rhythm — Block 2: the four meetings (day, week, month, quarter), who runs each one, and what is on the table.
  3. Keep the promises — Block 3: everything the team agreed to deliver, one name and one date on each, read out loud every week, and the two questions to the people doing the work.
  4. Put it on the wall, and dust it off — Block 4: the sheet above, on the page, plus every way of doing things with one owner and a date it was last checked.

Behind the sheet come the three pages that keep it alive: the week and the ten habits, the monthly page, and the table page for the working session.
